Jon Mast and Norma Camero - 4/2

In 2008 the housing industry crashed in four key states (including Florida) and it brought the world's economy to its knees. Tuesday April 2 CEO and builder Jon Mast will talk about the importance of the housing industry to protect the middle class.

PLUS Norma Camero will speak about Cuba and Venezuala and what we can learn from what's happened there.

Here's some of what you missed
Highlights of Steve Guffanti’s Interview of Jon Mast:

  • The building Industry in four states crashed and took the world’s economy into a recession. Congressman Darrell Issa said, “A country has to do three things: house its people, feed its people and get the raw materials to do both. No economy can survive on consumerism alone.”
  • There are 850 people moving into Florida every day. Jon Mast of the BIA represents the tradesmen that put their homes together. They literally build the American Dream.
  • Currently, less than 10% of the tradesmen are coming from Florida’s tech schools. Many of the tradesmen are illegals.
  • If we want to fix this, we need to make it easier for kids to get this training. HB 715, sponsored by Will Robinson, and Senate Bill 1076, sponsored by Joe Gruters, offer a solution—take money the bureaucrats can’t spend on anything else and pay for construction trade classes to be held on high school campuses. Please contact both Joe and Will and ask what support they need to pass the Florida Building Code Bill.
  • As for the illegals, change the immigration laws so that builders can request the tradesmen they need and get work visas in a timely manner. Otherwise, a wall will stop 90% of the construction workers from entering our country.
  • Every 20 years each county generates a Comprehensive Plan, which gives the builders security that the land they are buying for a specific purpose can be used for that purpose. And residents who care to do the research get to know what might be built next door.
  • Even still it costs between $10,000 and $20,000 in Manatee to rezone a property to the current plan. But a developer must hire specialists to testify at every hearing and Sarasota has many more hearings than Manatee driving the cost up to $1 million in one case. The process takes six to eight weeks just to get a building permit.

Highlights from Norma Camero:

  • Topic: The Crisis in Venezuela—Norma’s country of origin
  • It started with the election of Hugo Chavez, who said BEFORE the election “I am a democratic president.” AFTER the election? “I am a Marxist Leninist.”
  • Behind Chavez and the other dictators in countries like Venezuela and Cuba is Russia.
  • Before Chavez, Venezuela was one of the richest countries in the world, and the #1 oil producing nation.
  • Today people go without food, water, electricity…people are starving to death.
  • When I became a citizen decades ago, on the form, I was asked, “Have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?”
  • Today the question is still there but no one cares. Communists and Socialists have become one of the biggest forces of power in the world. They all have a common enemy: the US.
  • In Venezuela people pay huge amounts to see the doctor. Five percent goes to the doctor—the rest to the regime.
  • Action: Speak out against having a consulate in Tampa. The communists want it there because of the base nearby.
  • We (conservatives, patriots) need to win elections here (in the US) because what happened in Venezuela is what would happen here.
